What is the Purpose?

The purpose of the project is to develop the strategic framework and direction for planning and infrastructure within Central Queensland for the period 2011-2031, identifying a preferred future for Central Queensland in 2031 and specifying key changes and protections needed to transition to this preferred future within the following key themes:

  1. Settlement and development.
  2. Economic development.
  3. Regional infrastructure.
  4. Environmental sustainability.
  5. Social Wellbeing.
  6. Regional Issues (i.e. shared issues that involve levers in more than one of the above themes and also concern multiple local government areas – e.g. affordable housing).

The project represents a collaboration between Central Queensland stakeholders, lead by Local Government under the auspices of the Central Queensland Local Government Association.  The purpose of developing the CQ Framework through a collaborative approach is to:

  • establish a common strategic vision for the future of Central Queensland, with a focus on 2031;
  • provide a basis for consistent decision making over the long term;
  • provide a basis for project and resource allocation priorities; and
  • facilitate alignment and understanding of the Regional Planning and Infrastructure Framework and give confidence to staff, key stakeholders, investors and the public that the CQLGA member Councils and the region knows where it is heading and how it intends to get there.
Making a real difference, together.
