Councils release 5 Point Plan

by Michelle Roberts on 12th January 2012

Central Queensland councils are calling on all candidates for the upcoming state election to support a 5 Point Plan for the region which was endorsed by all councils at the recent CQ Local Government Association (CQLGA) Management Committee meeting.

Through this plan, councils are seeking the commitment from all political parties to:

  1. Support the development and implementation of the Regional CQ Planning and Infrastructure Framework
  2. Ensure secure and affordable water for CQ communities.
  3. Secure waste management funding that supports councils to achieve the objectives of the Queensland Waste Reduction and Recycling Strategy.
  4. Review legislation in relation housing affordability and infrastructure charges
  5. Assurance of no further Local Government structural reforms

President of the CQ Local Government Association, and Mayor of Isaac Regional Council, Cr Cedric Marshall stated this plan is in addition to the recently released Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) 10 point plan.

“Central Queensland is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, and we want to ensure all candidates understand what is important to our region, our councils and our communities” Cr Marshall said.

The mayors of Central Queensland are in full support of the CQLGA 5 Point Plan, endorsing their commitment at the recent CQLGA Management Committee meeting.
